So, I know it's been a hot minute since I've posted a blog and I have sincerely missed the practice of writing about one of my favorite topics: SELF-CARE!! So I am back and ready to bring you all things wellness again!
After my divorce was finalized in the fall, my goal this year was to practice more self-care. In early January, I began to use an infrared sauna blanket as part of a detox and a way to re-establish a better sleep routine. Then, at the end of January I joined a boutique fitness studio that utilizes infrared sauna and heat as part of their workout regime. The workouts are held in a three-person infrared sauna with pre-recorded programs for various levels of isometric hot yoga, hot Pilates, and other muscle group focused workouts. In addition, there are HIIT workouts using rowing machines, stationary bikes, and a Keiser total body trainer that utilizes both upper and lower body. All of these workouts are done in 125 degree temperatures for a quick 13-minute to a full 40-minute long workout. I really love the benefits I receive from this kind of workout. As you know, I am a yoga teacher and therefore having yoga as part of my regular mind-body wellness is essential for my own mental health and for my teaching.
Some benefits I have noticed since starting these two practices:
Better quality sleep
More energy
Faster muscle recovery
Less inflammation/less bloating
Slimmer physique
Glowing Skin
This past March, we held a wellness challenge at our company's two massage studios and wellness spa to encourage all the employees to try all the wellness services offered at our spa location. So in addition to using the sauna blanket and attending classes at Hotworx 3-4 times a week, I also was using red light therapy and an amethyst mat for grounding. Self-care and wellness literally became my full-time job since February. And I am so happy to have invested so much time and energy into it.
Additional benefits from using red light therapy and a PEMF grounding mat
More even skin-tone
Scratches/Scars healed better
More relaxed
Decreased anxiety
Easier to fall asleep at night
As I become more experienced in this school of life, I find myself curious about different ways to enhance my health; not just my physical health, but my mental health and well-being. As someone who has dealt with anxiety my whole life, even as a small child, I need to find ways to cope and manage my stress and overwhelm with life. I'm finding as I get deeper into middle-age and dare I say perimenopause, extreme mood swings and moments of deep despair momentarily halt my day with bouts of tears. I have been having many conversations with women around this topic with a common thought running through them: "I thought I was going crazy." Medical gaslighting is real, unfortunately.
As always, I am here to support women of all ages and stages of life. Sharing my experience, knowledge and expertise in the area of women's health and wellness is something I am very passionate about.
I am creating c0ntent to share with you all on Patreon as a paid member or the opportunity to pay a la carte for access to certain videos and content. Look for this starting in August, as I start recording and uploading material this month.
Also, stay tuned for next month's new additions to my self-care practices; some habits I got out of, but happy to incorporate again! Rebounding and a new dry-brushing/gua sha routine!
Can't wait to share what I have in store for you!!
With Love,
KC- Your Health and Wellness Coach/Yoga Teacher/Holistic Nutritionist
